Apretude (cabotegravir extended-release injectable suspension)

Apretude (cabotegravir extended-release injectable suspension) is an HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) indicated in at-risk adults and adolescents weighing at least 35 kg for PrEP to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 infection. Individuals must have a negative HIV-1 test prior to initiating APRETUDE (with or without an oral lead-in with oral cabotegravir) for HIV-1 PrEP.
The drug is often used to treat HIV .
This drug may have the following side effects:
- clay-colored stools, and
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- muscle or joint pain,
- loss of appetite,
- anxiety,
- fever,
- restlessness,
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- extreme tiredness,
- feeling unwell,
- blisters or sores in or around your mouth,
- red or puffy eyes,
- swelling in your face or mouth,
- unusual mood changes,
- sadness,
- hopelessness,
- stomach pain (upper right side),
- dark urine,
