Antabuse (disulfiram)

Antabuse (disulfiram) is an alcohol antagonist drug used to treat chronic alcoholism. Antabuse is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • upper stomach pain,
  • loss of appetite,
  • itching,
  • dark urine,
  • shortness of breath,
  • confusion,
  • clay-colored stools,
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice),
  • chest pain,
  • fluttering in your chest,
  • blurred vision,
  • swelling,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • increased thirst,
  • rapid weight gain,
  • lightheadedness
  • fast or pounding heartbeats,
  • unusual thoughts or behavior,
  • spinning sensation,
  • throbbing headache,
  • feeling unsteady, and
  • eye pain or sudden vision loss,
  • flushing (warmth, redness or tingly feeling),
  • severe vomiting,
  • neck pain,
The following drugs are related to Antabuse, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Campral (acamprosate calcium)
  • Disulfiram Tablets (disulfiram)
  • Vivitrol (naltrexone xr inj)
The following supplements are related to Antabuse, and may be used together with the drug:
  • Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (Ghb) (s.)
