Amytal Sodium (amobarbital sodium) For Injection is a sedative used for short-term treatment of insomnia.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • itching,
  • rash,
  • wheezing,
  • nervousness,
  • anxiety,
  • thoughts of self-harm,
  • depression,
  • red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever,
  • tightness in the chest or throat,
  • difficulty swallowing or talking,
  • unusual hoarseness,
  • emotional ups and downs,
  • abnormal thinking,
  • lack of interest in life,
  • slow breathing,
  • shallow breathing, and
  • redness, burning, pain, swelling, blisters, skin sores or leaking of fluid at the injection site
The following drugs are related to Amytal Sodium, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Ambien CR (zolpidem tartrate)
  • Hetlioz (tasimelteon capsules)
  • Sojourn (sevoflurane injection)
