Elavil (amitriptyline)

Elavil (amitryptiline) is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and mood disorders. Elavil may also be used to treat other conditions including nerve pain, eating disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder. The brand name Elavil is no longer available in the U.S. It is available in generic form.

The drug is often used to treat Panic disorder .

This drug may have the following side effects:

• fever,
• shaking,
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
• severe stomach pain, 
• fainting, 
• seizures, 
• severe dizziness, 
• muscle spasms,
• easy bruising or bleeding, 
• persistent heartburn, 
• mask-like facial expressions, 
• decreased sexual desire, 
• enlarged or painful breasts, 
• black stools, 
• eye pain, redness or swelling,
• vision changes, 
• muscle stiffness, 
• severe confusion, 
• sweating, and
• fast or irregular heartbeat
