Amikacin Sulfate Injection (amikacin sulfate)

Amikacin Sulfate Injection is an aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated in the short-term treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas species, Escherichia coli, species of indole-positive and indole-negative Proteus, Providencia species, Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia species, and Acinetobacter (Mima-Herellea) species. This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • numbness,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • hearing loss,
  • spinning sensation (vertigo),
  • skin tingling,
  • muscle twitching and convulsions,
  • ringing or roaring in the ears,
  • allergic reactions,
  • Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD),
  • skin rash,
  • drug fever,
  • numbness and tingling,
  • tremor,
  • increase in white blood cells (eosinophilia),
  • joint pain,
  • anemia,
  • low blood pressure, and
  • low blood magnesium.
