Ameluz (aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride) gel, 10%, for topical use, is a porphyrin precursor, used in combination with photodynamic therapy using BF-RhodoLED lamp, indicated for the lesion-directed and field-directed treatment of actinic keratoses of mild-to-moderate severity on the face and scalp.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • headache
  • itching
  • application site reactions
  • redness
  • pain
  • burning
  • irritation
  • swelling
  • flaking
  • scaling of skin
  • scabbing
  • hard lumps
  • chills, and
  • cysts
  • numbness and tingling
  • increased sensitivity to pain
  • discomfort
  • discharge
  • bleeding, and
  • pustules
