Cathflo Activase (alteplase) is a tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) indicated for the restoration of function to central venous access devices as assessed by the ability to withdraw blood.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • easy bruising,
  • lightheadedness,
  • shortness of breath,
  • dizziness,
  • severe headache,
  • blurred vision,
  • swelling,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • chest pain or pressure,
  • muscle weakness,
  • severe stomach pain,
  • rapid weight gain,
  • sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body),
  • slurred speech,
  • problems with vision or balance,
  • bloody or tarry stools,
  • coughing up blood,
  • vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
  • any bleeding that will not stop,
  • pain spreading to the jaw or shoulder,
  • very slow heartbeats,
  • general ill feeling,
  • anxiety
  • bleeding gums,
  • nosebleeds,
  • sudden headache,
  • bleeding from a wound, incision, catheter, or needle injection,
  • red or pink urine,
  • heavy menstrual periods,
  • abnormal vaginal bleeding,
  • sudden severe back pain,
  • numbness or loss of feeling in your arms or legs,
  • little or nor urination,
  • darkening or purple discoloration of your fingers or toes,
  • pounding in your neck or ears, and
