Alora (estradiol transdermal system)

Alora (estradiol transdermal system) is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone, used to treat certain symptoms of menopause such as dryness, burning, and itching of the vaginal area. Alora also reduces urgency or irritation of urination. Alora skin patches are also used to treat ovarian disorders, infertility, and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Some estradiol skin patches are used to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis.

The drug is often used to treat Osteoporosis .

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • headache,
  • vomiting,
  • constipation,
  • joint pain,
  • upset stomach,
  • weight changes,
  • back pain,
  • changes in your menstrual periods, or
  • bloating,
  • nipple discharge,
  • thinning scalp hair, 
  • acne or skin color changes,
  • breast swelling and tenderness,
  • increased facial hair,
  • cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, sinus pain, sore throat),
  • break-through bleeding.
  • skin redness or irritation at the application site,
The following drugs are related to Alora, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Covaryx (estrogens, esterified and methyltestosterone tablets)
  • Ortho-Cept (desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets)
  • Fyavolv (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets)
