Alfenta (alfentanil hydrochloride) Injection is an opioid analgesic used before and/or during surgery. Alfenta is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • loss of appetite,
  • diarrhea,
  • fever,
  • skin rash,
  • lightheadedness,
  • confusion,
  • tiredness,
  • dizziness,
  • blurred vision,
  • headache,
  • chest pain or discomfort,
  • fainting,
  • slow, fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat,
  • slow, rapid, or shallow breathing,
  • nervousness,
  • breathing that stops,
  • pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin,
  • pounding in the ears,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • cough,
  • noisy breathing,
  • rigid (very stiff) muscles,
  • tightness in the chest,
  • agitation,
  • darkening of the skin,
  • trouble swallowing,
  • overactive reflexes,
  • poor coordination,
  • puffiness or swelling of the eyelids,
  • restlessness,
  • shivering,
  • talking or acting with excitement,
  • trembling or shaking,
  • twitching, and
  • vomiting
