Alesse (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol)

Alesse (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) is an oral contraceptive that contains the female hormones estrogen and progestin. Generic versions of Alesse are available.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • upper stomach pain,
  • loss of appetite,
  • dark urine,
  • fever,
  • shortness of breath,
  • tiredness,
  • clay-colored stools,
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice),
  • pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder,
  • severe headache,
  • blurred vision,
  • pounding in your neck or ears,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • chest pain or pressure,
  • sudden numbness or weakness,
  • slurred speech,
  • coughing up blood,
  • sudden vision loss,
  • mood changes
  • swelling or redness in an arm or leg,
  • stabbing chest pain,
  • tiredness, and
  • sleep problems,
  • breast lump,
  • balance problems,
  • swelling in your hands, ankles or feet,
  • changes in pattern or severity of migraine headaches,

  • Errin (norethindrone tablets usp)
  • Jencycla (norethindrone tablets)
