Fosamax (alendronate sodium)

Fosamax (alendronate sodium) is a bisphosphonate that is a specific inhibitor of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption used to both treat and prevent osteoporosis, and to treat Paget's disease. Fosamax is available in generic form.
The drug is often used to treat Osteoporosis .
This drug may have the following side effects:
- swelling
- chest pain
- new or worsening heartburn
- pain or burning under the ribs or in the back
- severe heartburn
- burning pain in the upper stomach or coughing up blood
- new or unusual pain in your thigh or hip
- jaw pain
- numbness
- severe joint, bone or muscle pain
- muscle spasms or cramps
- numbness or tingly feeling around your mouth or in your fingers or toes
