Aldactone (spironolactone)

Aldactone (spironolactone) is an aldosterone receptor antagonist that causes the kidneys to remove water and sodium from the body, with reduced losses of potassium. Aldactone is used to reduce edema caused by heart, liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure (hypertension), and certain patients with hyperaldosteronism. Aldactone is available in a generic form named spironolactone.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • vomiting,
  • lightheadedness,
  • confusion,
  • headache,
  • little or no urination,
  • increased urination,
  • slow heart rate,
  • slurred speech,
  • extreme thirst,
  • bloody or tarry stools,
  • muscle spasms,
  • loss of coordination, and
  • weak pulse,
  • feeling unsteady
  • muscle weakness or limp feeling,
  • uneven heart rate,
  • leg discomfort,
  • coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
  • numbness or tingly feeling,
