Actiq (fentanyl citrate)

Actiq (oral transmucosal fentanyl citrate) is a narcotic pain medicine used to treat "breakthrough" cancer pain that is not controlled by other medicines. Actiq is not for short-term pain relief. Actiq is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • loss of appetite,
  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • lightheadedness,
  • confusion,
  • severe drowsiness,
  • dizziness,
  • diarrhea
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • agitation,
  • shivering,
  • slow heart rate,
  • shallow breathing,
  • hallucinations,
  • twitching,
  • unusual thoughts or behavior,
  • fast heart rate,
  • blue colored lips,
  • muscle stiffness,
  • loss of coordination, and
  • slow breathing with long pauses,
  • difficult to wake up,
  • sighing,
  • breathing that stops during sleep,
  • worsening tiredness,
  • upset stomach before the medicine has completely dissolved,
  • extreme fear,
