Kivexa (abacavir and lamivudine film-coated tablets)

Kivexa (abacavir and lamivudine) is a combination of antiviral drugs called nucleoside analogues that is indicated in antiretroviral combination therapy for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age. Epzicom is the name for the drug equivalent in the U.S.
The drug is often used to treat HIV .
This drug may have the following side effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- diarrhea,
- fever,
- easy bruising,
- unusual bleeding,
- pale skin,
- shortness of breath,
- chills,
- dizziness,
- back pain,
- weakness,
- cough,
- unusual tiredness,
- sore throat,
- thoughts of self-harm,
- vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
- any bleeding that will not stop,
- bleeding gums,
- nosebleeds,
- rapid heart rate, and
- blood in urine,
- rapid heartbeat,
- black or tarry stools,
- coughing blood,
- poor concentration,
- changes in weight,
- decreased interest in activities,
- changes in sleep,
- abdominal pain (upper left side),
- any rash (no matter how minor),
- a rash with blistering or peeling,
- swelling of the abdomen,
- rapid or shallow breathing
